Hailing from Islay, Scotland, Ardbeg is renowned for producing some of the most intensely peated single malts in the world. This limited edition, BizarreBQ, continues that bold tradition while exploring new ground—paying homage to the primal pleasure of flame, smoke and outdoor cooking. It is a distinctly Islay dram with a smoky twist inspired by barbecue culture.

Crafted from malted barley and Islay's famously peaty water source, this is a single malt Scotch whisky. BizarreBQ is a limited edition release with a smoky, savoury style, designed to evoke the rich flavours of chargrilled meat and open-fire cooking.

Distilled in traditional copper pot stills at Ardbeg Distillery, the whisky is non-chill filtered to retain maximum flavour and texture. It is matured in a trio of casks: double charred oak casks for deep smoky character, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for sweetness and richness, and specially prepared ‘BBQ casks’ to add layers of grilled complexity. This combination brings an unmistakably meaty and spicy profile.

On the nose, expect an explosion of charcoal, soot, and smoked wood, underpinned by aromatic herbs, treacle toffee, and hickory smoked ham. Hints of espresso and cinnamon add warmth. A touch of water unlocks citrus zest, fennel, and aniseed, with grilled artichoke and the unmistakable scent of BBQ embers in the background. The palate delivers a spice hit—think chilli-glazed ribs—followed by layers of flame-grilled steak, clove, tar, and cured leather. Warming smoke envelopes the mouth, laced with ginger and aromatic wood. The finish is long and smouldering, with charred vegetables, black olives, and a final sooty edge that gently fades.
