Plantation Rum Belize 2015

Produced in Belize, a small Central American country with a growing reputation for quality rum, this expression showcases the region's deep connection to sugarcane cultivation and traditional rum-making practices. Belizean rum often reflects a rich, full-bodied style influenced by the tropical climate.

Made from molasses, derived from locally grown sugarcane, this is a column-distilled rum that represents a robust, flavourful, and rich character. Plantation's Belize 2015 release is crafted as a limited edition, single vintage rum, offering a refined yet bold profile with a fruit-forward edge.

Distilled using a column still, the rum first aged for six years in ex-bourbon casks in the tropical heat of Belize. It was then shipped to France for a further year's maturation in Ferrand Cognac casks, a signature of Plantation's ageing technique. Finally, it was finished for one year in cherry liqueur casks, imparting a unique, vibrant fruitiness to the spirit. This triple cask ageing adds layers of complexity and a distinctive finishing touch.

On the nose, there's a rich interplay of cherry, balsamic and dark chocolate, layered with roasted nuts, coconut, cinnamon, pepper, and hints of vanilla and honey. The palate is vibrant and intense, bursting with green apple, stewed cherry, and prune, underpinned by warming spice and a subtle tobacco note. The mouthfeel is smooth yet bold, leading into a long finish with lingering flavours of dark fruit, gentle smoke and sweet oak.
