Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2020
The Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2020 is a flagship wine from one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed wineries, crafted exclusively from the oldest Pinot Noir plantings on the Martinborough Terrace. This vintage is a true expression of its region and season, reflecting an ideal growing year with balanced rainfall, temperature, and yields.
With its hallmark complexity and elegance, this wine is beautifully perfumed, showcasing aromas of juniper, cranberry, and red plum, interwoven with spice notes of cardamom, pink peppercorn, and dried oregano. The palate is bright and supple, featuring finely textured tannins that carry through to a long, poised finish. It embodies the signature Ata Rangi style—confident, refined, and a benchmark for their single-vineyard offerings.
This wine reflects meticulous craftsmanship, with 40% of the fruit undergoing whole-bunch fermentation while the rest was destemmed. Fermentation was carried out using indigenous yeasts, ensuring an authentic expression of the region. The wine spent 15–23 days in tank before being pressed and allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, 35% of which were new. After 11 months in oak, the wine was blended and held for an additional 8 months prior to bottling, allowing the flavours to integrate and mature.
This Pinot Noir's vibrant red fruit and herbal spice make it an excellent match for dishes such as duck breast with cherry sauce, wild mushroom risotto, or herb-crusted lamb. Its balanced acidity and refined tannins also complement soft, creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
