Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur's Meursault Charmes Premier Cru originates from the esteemed Meursault appellation in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. Renowned for producing some of the world's finest Chardonnay wines, Meursault's Premier Cru vineyards, particularly 'Les Charmes,' are celebrated for their exceptional terroir, imparting distinctive richness and complexity to the wines.
This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes, embodying the classic Meursault style. It is known for its delicate fruit profile and the characteristic creamy texture that defines the region's white wines.
The vineyard spans 0.2 hectares, with vines planted in 1944 and 1987. The soil is pebbly limestone with sand and loam consistency. The grapes undergo gentle pressing to extract the finest juice components. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged in oak barrels, with 20% new oak, for 12 to 16 months to enhance complexity while preserving the wine's inherent freshness.
The 2022 vintage displays a delicate nose with aromas of floral honey and acacia blossoms. On the palate, it presents stone fruit and lemon sherbet notes, leading into an impressive finish. The acidity is vibrant, and, above all, there is excellent balance within the wine, indicating excellent ageing potential.
This white wine pairs excellently with rich seafood dishes such as lobster thermidor or seared scallops with a butter sauce. It also complements poultry dishes like roast chicken with a creamy mushroom sauce. For a vegetarian option, consider pairing it with a wild mushroom risotto or a creamy butternut squash soup.
