Domaine Bitouzet Prieur Puligny Montrachet 2021
The Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Puligny-Montrachet is a refined white wine from the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, France, specifically from the renowned Puligny-Montrachet appellation, known for producing some of the finest Chardonnays in the world. This wine is sourced from the Les Levrons vineyard, a small plot planted with old vines dating back to 1955, which provides the wine with great depth and complexity. The region’s limestone-rich soils impart a distinctive minerality to the wine, which is complemented by the area's cool climate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop excellent acidity and fresh flavours.
Made from Chardonnay grapes, the wine showcases a typically elegant and restrained Puligny-Montrachet style. It was fermented using natural yeasts, and the wine's aging process enhances its balance and texture. After fermentation, the wine was aged in oak barrels, contributing a subtle layer of complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.
The 2021 vintage of Puligny-Montrachet Les Levrons is characterized by ripe apple and pear notes, along with a touch of lemon and hazelnut on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively, with a clean, mineral finish, reflecting the region's signature acidity and elegant fruit character. This wine offers excellent tension and will benefit from further aging, allowing the flavours to integrate and develop.
The bright acidity and mineral qualities of this Puligny-Montrachet make it a perfect match for dishes such as grilled seafood, roast chicken, or creamy mushroom risotto. Its subtle oak influence also complements rich dishes like lobster bisque or goat cheese.
