Castello Di Verrazzano Chianti Classico Riserva 2020
This wine is produced in the Greve in Chianti area of Tuscany, Italy, a key subregion within the renowned Chianti Classico DOCG. The limestone-rich soils and rolling hills of the region are ideal for cultivating Sangiovese, the dominant grape variety, resulting in wines with vibrant acidity and complex flavours. The Castello di Verrazzano, a historic estate dating back to the Renaissance, has long been a hallmark of traditional winemaking in this prestigious region.
The wine is a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% complementary red grapes from the estate. It exemplifies the traditional Chianti Classico Riserva style, with robust structure, elegant fruit expression, and the ability to age gracefully.
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented at controlled temperatures, not exceeding 28°C, with a maceration period of 15-17 days to extract optimal flavours and tannins. The wine is aged for a minimum of 24 months in 20 hl oak barrels, followed by an additional 6 months of refinement in bottle.
The ruby red colour with garnet reflections hints at its maturity. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe red fruits, enhanced by notes of tobacco, black pepper, and sweet wood, which become more intricate with age. The palate is full-bodied and harmonious, with well-integrated tannins and a persistent, elegant finish.
This Chianti Classico Riserva pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasts, and aged cheeses. It is also an ideal match for hearty Tuscan dishes like wild boar ragu or bistecca alla Fiorentina. Serve at 18-20°C.
