Chateau De Pommard Clos Marey Monge Monopole 2019
Clos Marey-Monge, the largest monopole in Burgundy, is nestled at the base of the Pommard hillside. Protected by a two-metre-high stone wall, this vineyard benefits from a unique combination of soils, including limestone, clay, sand, and gravel. These diverse soils, shaped over millennia by the Avant-Dheune river, contribute to the complexity and depth of the wines produced here. Pommard, a historic appellation in the Côte de Beaune, is renowned for its powerful and elegant Pinot Noir.
This wine is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir, expressing a balance of power, finesse, and complexity. The 2019 vintage is noted for its ripeness and fresh acidity, reflecting Burgundy's excellent conditions in that year. The wine showcases the terroir-driven style typical of high-quality Pommard, with potential for extended aging.
Hand-harvested grapes are meticulously sorted and de-stemmed before being transferred into stainless steel fermentation vats via gravity flow. The wine undergoes a long maceration with minimal intervention, including gentle pumping-over and punching-down to extract flavours. After fermentation, it is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 20% new oak, to enhance complexity without overwhelming the delicate fruit.
With a brilliant ruby colour and purple undertones, the Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2019 offers an aromatic nose of red fruit, dried flowers, and hints of pepper and earth. The palate is round, generous, and fresh, with silky tannins and a touch of sweetness. The finish is long and complex.
This wine pairs beautifully with duck breast, mushroom risotto, or roasted lamb. Its elegance also complements game dishes and rich sauces. Serve at 16°C. Suitable for aging up to 25 years.
