De Loach Chardonnay 2021
The DeLoach Chardonnay is a classic expression of the Russian River Valley, a region celebrated for its cool climate and fog-influenced terroir, ideal for growing Chardonnay. This wine is sourced from three vineyards—BCD, Norris, and Boriolo—each contributing distinct qualities. The soils range from heavy clay to sandy loams, while the proximity to the Laguna de Santa Rosa and the Chalk Hill sub-appellation adds depth and minerality to the wine.
The blend comprises of 97% Chardonnay and 3% Grenache Blanc grapes, showcasing a balance of floral aromatics and fruit flavours. The 2021 vintage benefited from cool and foggy conditions in July and August, preserving acidity and delivering fruit of excellent quality. Vinification involved fermentation in stainless steel tanks, concrete vats, and French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 10 months, with 10% in French oak (10% new).
Expect aromas of lemon peel, yellow peach, and white blossom lead to a full-bodied palate with flavours of lemon curd, pear, and subtle hints of baking spice. The integrated acidity complements its texture for a balanced finish.
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with butter-poached lobster, grilled salmon, or roast chicken. Its creamy texture and bright acidity also complement soft cheeses like Brie or tangy goat cheese.
