Domaine Rolet Macvin Blanc Du Jura
The Macvin du Jura is a unique fortified wine produced exclusively in the Jura region of eastern France. This appellation is known for its traditional winemaking methods and diverse terroirs. Macvin Blanc is made by blending unfermented grape juice (must) from Chardonnay and Savagnin with Marc du Jura, a grape pomace brandy. The Jura's cool climate and marl-limestone soils contribute to the wine's balance of richness and freshness, offering a distinctive regional character.
This wine is made from Chardonnay and Savagnin, two emblematic grape varieties of the Jura. The addition of aged Marc du Jura results in a liqueur-like wine with moderate sweetness, a rich texture, and a harmonious blend of fruity and floral notes. Macvin Blanc is an elegant, complex fortified wine that showcases the Jura's unique traditions.
The Marc du Jura used for this Macvin is aged for over six years in oak barrels, far exceeding the AOC's minimum requirement of 18 months. The Marc is blended with fresh grape must to halt fermentation, preserving the natural sweetness of the juice. The resulting mixture is then aged for 48 months in oak barrels.
The wine presents a pale yellow colour with copper highlights. Aromas of raisins, figs, and subtle floral notes dominate the nose. On the palate, it is rich and balanced, with a seamless integration of the sweetness from the grape must and the warmth of the Marc. The finish is smooth and lingering, offering a harmony of fruit and spice.
Macvin Blanc is perfect as an aperitif or paired with sweet and savoury dishes. It complements melon, walnut ice cream, and fruit-based desserts beautifully. For a unique twist, it can also be used in cocktails, particularly with a Jura Cremant. Serve chilled at 6–8°C.
