Château Durfort-Vivens is a distinguished Second Grand Cru Classé estate located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. Margaux is renowned for producing some of the most elegant and refined red wines in Bordeaux, characterised by their aromatic complexity and silky tannins. The estate's vineyards are situated on deep gravel soils, ideal for cultivating high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.
The 2019 vintage is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. This blend showcases the classic Margaux style, offering a harmonious balance between power and finesse, with the Cabernet Sauvignon providing structure and depth, complemented by the Merlot's softness and roundness.
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo meticulous sorting to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, adhering to biodynamic principles. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak barriques, enhancing its complexity and ageing potential.
It exhibits a deep ruby colour. The nose is rich with floral, fruity, spicy, and roasted notes. On the palate, it is smooth and fresh, with fine tannins, leading to a powerful finish. This wine offers excellent ageing potential, promising a beautiful evolution over time.
This red wine pairs wonderfully with barbecued duck breast with red pepper sauce and raspberry bavarois with red fruit coulis, green and white pepper.
