Produced in the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil AOC within the Loire Valley, France, this wine exemplifies the unique terroir of the region. The area is characterised by sandy-gravelly soils deposited by the Loire River, which lend a distinctive freshness and minerality to the wines. Known for its Cabernet Franc, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil wines are celebrated for their lightness, elegance, and vibrant fruit flavours.
Made from Cabernet Franc grapes, this wine embodies the fresh, fruit-forward style. The grapes are hand-picked from vines planted in 1983 on sandy-gravelly terraces. The wine is made through an infusion process of de-stemmed grapes, which preserves the delicate fruit flavours and soft tannins. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, and the wine is aged for 8 months in vats. With minimal intervention and low sulphite content, the winemaking process emphasises purity and freshness .
The 2021 vintage opens with aromas of wild strawberries, violets, and a touch of liquorice. On the palate, it is light and refreshing, offering flavours of blackberries and delicate floral notes. The texture is smooth, with vibrant acidity and a soft, lingering finish.
This wine pairs well with pasta arrabbiata or Thai satay chicken. It also pairs well with light charcuterie and roasted vegetables. Serve slightly chilled at 14–16°C, and open the bottle an hour before serving for the best experience.
