Domaine Filliatreau Saumur Champigny 2020
Domaine Filliatreau Saumur Champigny wine originates from the Saumur-Champigny AOC in the Loire Valley, a region famed for its light, aromatic red wines primarily made from Cabernet Franc. The vineyards, located near Saumur, benefit from clay-limestone soils and a temperate climate influenced by the Loire River, producing wines with vibrant freshness and a distinct mineral character.
The wine is crafted exclusively from Cabernet Franc grapes, known for its red fruit-driven profile and herbal nuances. The 2020 vintage is a light, easy-drinking red, with the balance and finesse typical of Loire Valley wines. Grapes are harvested from 35-year-old vines, with 50% manual and 50% mechanical harvests. After destemming, fermentation occurs in stainless steel vats, followed by about ten days of maceration to preserve the fruit's freshness. The wine is unoaked, enhancing its pure fruit expression.
On the nose, the wine reveals red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries. The palate is light and fresh, with flavours of cherries and hints of spice and herbs. It has a smooth, silky texture and a clean, refreshing finish.
Served slightly chilled at 12–14°C, this versatile red pairs wonderfully with charcuterie, lamb, seared tuna, and roast vegetables. It is equally enjoyable with summer vegetable dishes seasoned with herbs like za'atar or chimichurri.
