Domaine Gerard Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2022
The Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume is one of the most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards in the Chablis AOC, located in the northernmost part of Burgundy, France. Known for its limestone-rich soils with marl, this terroir contributes to wines with remarkable minerality and finesse. The vineyard's south-east-facing slopes capture optimal sunlight, allowing for balanced ripeness while retaining the acidity that defines Chablis wines. Fourchaume's proximity to Grand Cru sites further elevates its reputation.
This wine is made from Chardonnay, the sole grape variety permitted in Chablis. It reflects the classic style of Premier Cru Chablis, which emphasises elegance, minerality, and vibrant acidity. The style is sophisticated, with complex aromas and a harmonious balance of fruit and structure.
The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed using a pneumatic press. The must undergoes natural sedimentation (débourbage) for 12–24 hours to clarify the juice without enzymes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with precise temperature control to preserve the wine's freshness and aromatics. Afterward, the wine is aged for 6–12 months, with 20% of the cuvée aged in oak barrels to add subtle complexity while maintaining the purity of the fruit.
The 2022 Gerard Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume offers a floral and honeyed nose, with nuances of white flowers and citrus. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet fresh, with notes of ripe apple, lemon, and a touch of minerality. The wine has a long and persistent finish.
It pairs beautifully with seafood, white meats, monkfish blanquette, rabbit in mustard sauce, or lighter desserts like pineapple tiramisu. Serve chilled at 12–13°C. It can be cellared for 5–15 years to develop greater complexity.
