Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard's Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets Premier Cru 2020 is a highly regarded white wine from the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France. The Les Caillerets vineyard, located at an altitude of 300 metres, benefits from its east-facing exposure and stony calcareous clay soils, which are enriched annually with biodynamic composts. These soils contribute to the wine's distinctive minerality and complexity, highlighting the unique terroir of this Premier Cru site.
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay, the hallmark grape of Burgundy's finest white wines. The style is elegant and precise, balancing rich fruit flavours with a vibrant acidity and a signature saline minerality. It reflects the tradition of the region while showcasing the individuality of the Les Caillerets vineyard.
The grapes were hand-harvested and hand-sorted at the winery to ensure only the highest quality fruit was used. Whole-bunch pressing preserved the fruit's delicate flavours, and fermentation occurred with native yeasts in oak barrels, 30% of which were new. The wine was aged for 19 months in oak, allowing it to develop richness and complexity while maintaining its refined character.
On the palate, it is elegant and well-structured, offering layers of citrus and apricot fruit supported by a creamy texture from the oak ageing. The vibrant acidity and mineral backbone promise excellent ageing potential.
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, lobster, or creamy scallop dishes. It also complements earthy dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or truffle-infused pasta. For a cheese pairing, opt for creamy options like Brie, Camembert, or Chaource. Serve slightly chilled at 10–12°C.
