Domaine La Chablisienne Petit Chablis Pas Si Petit 2021
Petit Chablis is a distinct appellation within the Chablis region of Burgundy, France, known for its Chardonnay-based wines. Located on higher-altitude slopes with Portlandian clay-limestone soils, Petit Chablis offers a fresher and lighter expression compared to the richer wines of other Chablis classifications. This terroir and its cooler climate result in crisp, mineral-driven wines that are characteristic of the region.
Made from Chardonnay grapes, this wine is a quintessential example of the Chablis region's fresh and vibrant style. It is marked by bright acidity, a clean flavour profile, and an emphasis on minerality rather than oak influence. The grapes undergo cold settling before fermentation, which takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are conducted, with the wine then maturing on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. This process enhances its texture while maintaining a fruit-forward character.
The wine exhibits a pale gold colour. The nose is initially expressive with notes of peach, pineapple, and a hint of flint. Upon aeration, citrus aromas such as lemon emerge, interwoven with subtle herbal notes of rosemary. On the palate, the wine is lively and zesty, with lemony acidity leading to a mineral-driven, mouth-watering finish that reflects its limestone terroir.
This Petit Chablis pairs excellently with seafood, sushi, and grilled fish. It is also a delightful match for light appetisers such as tapas or as an aperitif. Serve chilled for an optimal tasting experience.
