Chateau Le Couvent Pomerol 2021

Château Le Couvent hails from the esteemed Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. Pomerol is renowned for producing opulent red wines, predominantly from Merlot, characterised by their rich fruit flavours, velvety textures, and notable ageing potential. The region's unique terroir, featuring gravel and clay soils, contributes to the depth and complexity of its wines.

This vintage is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Malbec. The high proportion of Merlot imparts lushness and roundness, while Cabernet Franc adds aromatic complexity and structure. The inclusion of Malbec, though less common in Pomerol blends, introduces additional depth and a hint of spice, resulting in a harmonious and elegant wine.

Pomerol winemaking typically involves meticulous grape selection, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled vats to preserve the purity of fruit flavours. Ageing often occurs in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, balancing the wine's fruit profile with subtle oak influences.

The 2021 vintage presents a rich ruby hue. The nose is expressive, offering aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, and cedar, evolving into blackberry and spice nuances, creating a complex bouquet. On the palate, the wine is elegant and supple, with a generous structure showcasing red fruit flavours and a well-integrated tannic framework. This red wine pairs wonderfully with beef dishes, such as a traditional Wellington, as well as festive turkey or roast duck. The wine's structure and fruit profile also complement game meats and aged cheeses.
