The Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County, California, is renowned for its cool-climate conditions, which are ideal for growing Pinot Noir. The region benefits from the influence of Pacific Ocean fog, creating a long growing season that allows grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while preserving acidity. Littorai sources grapes for Les Larmes from a selection of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards across the valley, including prestigious sites such as Savoy, Cerise, and Wendling. The region's diverse soils and microclimates add depth and complexity to the wine.
This wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes, showcasing the elegance and aromatic finesse typical of this variety in the Anderson Valley. The style emphasises a balance between vibrant fruit, acidity, and fine tannins. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness and fruit purity. Maturation occurs over 10 months in French oak barrels, 13% of which are new, imparting subtle oak influence. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, preserving its natural expression and texture.
The 2021 Les Larmes opens with an expressive bouquet of blackberry, plum, and floral rose petal aromas, complemented by an earthy, gravel-like undertone. On the palate, bright and juicy acidity leads, followed by fine-grained tannins that provide structure. The wine is both vibrant and elegant, with a finish that is long, harmonious, and intricately detailed.
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including roast duck, grilled salmon, and wild mushroom risotto. It also complements lighter game meats like quail or pigeon and soft cheeses such as brie or camembert. Serve at around 16–18°C.
