Domaine Madeloc Serral Collioure 2020
This wine is from the Collioure AOC, located in the Roussillon region of southern France. Nestled near the Mediterranean Sea, the vineyards benefit from daily coastal humidity and schist soils that impart elegance and minerality to the wines. The steep terraces of the region, with altitudes ranging from 35 to 160 metres, ensure low yields but produce concentrated, high-quality grapes. The rugged terrain and the maritime influence make Collioure wines unique in their balance of power and finesse.
The 2020 Serral is a blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvedre, and Syrah, crafted to express the full potential of the terroir. The style is intense and velvety, with a focus on ripe fruit and smooth tannins, making it both approachable and complex. The vines, averaging 25 years in age, contribute depth and character. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with careful sorting to ensure only the best fruit is used. Traditional winemaking methods include total destemming and cold pre-fermentation maceration to preserve fresh fruit aromas. Fermentation occurs at 25°C, followed by a post-fermentation phase at 30°C to enhance tannin extraction. The wine is then aged for 15 months in oak barrels, adding complexity and integrating the flavours.
The nose is open and inviting, with aromas of sweet spices, ripe red fruits, and strawberries. On the palate, the wine is balanced and juicy, featuring a supple tannic structure with velvety textures. Ripe fruit flavours are complemented by a touch of minerality, creating a harmonious and indulgent finish.
Serral pairs beautifully with charcuterie, grilled meats, and hearty dishes such as cassoulet.
