The Margaux AOC in Bordeaux is renowned for its gravelly soils that contribute to the region's sophisticated red wines. Chateau Marquis de Terme, a Grand Cru Classé estate since 1855, epitomises Margaux's winemaking heritage. The estate's terroir features deep gravel soils with pockets of clay, which enhance water retention and stress during the growing season, resulting in highly concentrated grapes. The Cuvée 1762 honours the estate's founding and highlights the typicity of this prestigious appellation.

This wine is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, representing the classic varietal combination of the Margaux AOC. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and complexity, while Merlot adds richness and suppleness. Petit Verdot contributes depth and spice, culminating in a wine of elegance and power.

The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before being vinified separately by parcel in concrete, wood, and stainless-steel vats. A cold pre-fermentation maceration and controlled fermentation with natural yeasts are used to enhance aromatic expression. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and concrete vats, followed by further maturation to achieve optimal balance.

The 2018 Cuvée 1762 displays a deep ruby colour with hints of purple. The bouquet is rich and expressive, offering aromas of blackberries, dark chocolate, bitter orange, and liquorice, complemented by floral nuances. The palate is full-bodied, round, and creamy, with vibrant flavours of dark berries, a mocha-infused finish, and velvety tannins that create a smooth, lingering impression.

This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, filet mignon, and game dishes. It also complements creamy cheeses and dishes with earthy, umami flavours, such as mushroom risotto or truffle-infused pasta. Serve at 16–18°C.
