Massolino Moscato D'Asti 2023
Massolino Moscato d'Asti comes from the Langhe region of Piedmont, Italy, a prestigious winemaking area known for its rolling hills and exceptional terroirs. The wine is crafted in Serralunga d'Alba, a commune traditionally associated with powerful reds but also capable of producing delicately aromatic Moscato. The mixed soil composition, leaning towards limestone, imparts distinctive minerality to the wine. The region's cool climate enhances the grape's natural acidity, ensuring balance in its sweet profile.
The wine is made entirely from Moscato Bianco, a grape variety prized for its aromatic intensity and natural sweetness. Moscato d'Asti is lightly sparkling and low in alcohol, offering a fresh, fragrant, and slightly sweet style. This is a wine designed for indulgence, with a focus on preserving the pure expression of the grape.
Fermentation takes place in large pressurised tanks (autoclaves) to retain the delicate fruit and floral aromas of the grapes. The process halts early, leaving residual sugar and creating the light sparkle characteristic of Moscato d'Asti. This gentle approach captures the vibrant notes of sage and mint that reflect the unique terroir of Serralunga. The wine is carefully handled to ensure freshness and flavour clarity.
In the glass, the wine presents a bright straw-yellow hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The bouquet is intensely fresh and aromatic, with dominant notes of sage, mint, and ripe fruits. On the palate, it is expansive and enveloping, balancing sweetness with a natural, refreshing acidity. The finish is long and delicious, showcasing the classic Moscato grape's profile without becoming overly cloying.
Massolino Moscato d'Asti is a perfect match for desserts, particularly traditional options like Langhe hazelnut cake, apple and pine nut cake, or lemon cake. It also pairs wonderfully with Christmas panettone or fruit pastries. For a unique pairing, serve it with mature, slightly spicy cheeses. Serve at 9–10°C.
