Château Moulin Riche Saint-Julien 2017 is crafted in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, an area celebrated for its elegant and age-worthy red wines. The vineyard benefits from Garonne gravels and aeolian sands, which provide excellent drainage and promote vine health. Sustainable viticulture practices, combined with a meticulous focus on traditional techniques, enhance the expression of the terroir in this exceptional wine.
The 2017 blend comprises of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. This composition showcases the structure and intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by the softness of Merlot and the spice and depth contributed by Petit Verdot. The result is a full-bodied, well-balanced wine with a modern yet classically styled character.
The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted both manually and using an optical sorting machine to ensure only the healthiest berries were used. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with each vineyard plot vinified separately to retain its unique characteristics. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 18–20 months in a mix of new and second-use oak barrels, imparting subtle spice and complexity while preserving the fruit's vibrancy.
This wine opens with a bouquet of rich red fruit aromas, including cherry and plum, intertwined with subtle notes of spice and cedar. On the palate, it is juicy and vibrant, with well-integrated tannins that provide a refined structure and a sense of tension. Flavours of ripe berries are complemented by hints of vanilla, clove, and a touch of tobacco from the oak ageing. The finish is smooth and long, leaving a lasting impression.
This red wine pairs beautifully with classic Bordeaux dishes, such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or duck breast. It also complements rich mushroom-based dishes, braised short ribs, and aged cheeses like Gruyère or Comté. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for an hour before serving.
