Mount Pleasant Lovedale Hunter Valley Semillon 2018
The Mount Pleasant Lovedale Hunter Valley Semillon 2018 hails from the iconic Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. This region is renowned for producing some of the world's finest Semillon, a white variety that thrives in the warm, humid climate of the valley. The Lovedale vineyard, planted in 1946, is situated on a sandy seabed, with soils rich in red and yellow clay, which contribute to the distinctive character of the wine.
This wine is 100% Semillon, a grape variety that the Hunter Valley has made its name with. Known for its crisp acidity and aging potential, Hunter Semillon develops complex honeyed and toasted notes as it matures. The 2018 Lovedale Semillon is a prime example of this style, showcasing both fresh citrus and aged characteristics.
After the grapes were hand-harvested, they were destemmed and cold-settled before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A neutral yeast strain was used to highlight the unique characteristics of the vineyard. Fermentation took place at a cool temperature to preserve the delicate flavours. Afterward, the wine was gently fined and filtered before being bottled.
The 2018 Lovedale Semillon is pale straw in colour, with a green tinge. The nose is intense, offering aromas of lemon, lime, and grapefruit, along with honey and toast from the bottle age. The palate delivers vibrant citrus flavours, with a fleshy character and lively acidity, culminating in a long, persistent finish.
This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as oysters or grilled fish, as well as lighter poultry dishes. The wine's complexity also makes it a great match for goat cheese or creamy risottos.
