Domaine Philippe Gilbert's Menetou-Salon Blanc 2023 is a distinguished white wine from the Menetou-Salon appellation in the Loire Valley, France. This region, situated near Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, is celebrated for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc wines, offering a unique expression of the grape variety.
Crafted entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, this wine embodies the grape's characteristic freshness and aromatic complexity. The 2023 vintage presents a dry style, balancing the grape's natural acidity with a subtle minerality, resulting in a wine that is both vibrant and harmonious.
The vines, planted 25 years ago on clay-limestone soils dating back to the Kimmeridgian period, are cultivated biodynamically. The wine is aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for 10 to 18 months, a process that enhances its texture and depth while preserving its crisp character.
It exhibits a pale yellow hue with golden highlights. The nose is expressive, revealing notes of ripe citrus fruits, white peach, and subtle hints of flint and wet stone, indicative of its mineral-rich terroir. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with a crisp acidity that balances the fruitiness. The finish is clean and persistent.
This Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with seafood, such as shellfish and grilled fish, as well as fresh salads and goat cheese. It also serves as an excellent aperitif.
