Pieropan Le Colombare Recioto Di Soave Classico 2020
Hailing from the Soave Classico region in Veneto, Italy, this wine reflects the heritage of one of Italy's most renowned sweet wine appellations. The area's limestone-rich clay soils and west-facing slopes contribute to the unique complexity and depth of its wines, a tradition maintained by the Pieropan family for generations.
Made exclusively from 100% Garganega grapes, this Recioto di Soave exemplifies the appassimento method, where grapes are dried on bamboo racks to intensify their natural sugars and flavours, creating an elegant, luscious dessert wine.
The grapes are hand-picked late in the season to ensure peak ripeness, often with some natural botrytis. After drying for approximately five months, they are fermented and aged in a combination of French oak tonneaux and large Slavonian oak barrels for 15 months, followed by further bottle aging to enhance complexity.
This wine features a striking golden yellow hue with aromas of honey, dried apricot, exotic fruits, and toasted almonds. On the palate, it offers a rich, velvety sweetness balanced by fresh acidity, with flavours of candied citrus, baked peaches, and a mineral edge. The finish is long and perfumed, with an exquisite balance between sweetness and freshness.
Pieropan Le Colombare pairs beautifully with desserts like fruit tarts, cheesecake, or chocolate truffles. It also complements blue cheese. Serve at 12-14C°.
