Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viognier 2023
This wine is a blend of Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg and Viognier from Lodi, two prominent Californian wine regions. Clarksburg, often called the "Gem of the Delta," is celebrated for Chenin Blanc, benefiting from a long growing season moderated by Sacramento River influences. Lodi's Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, is ideal for Rhône varietals like Viognier, delivering a natural balance of acidity and aromatic richness.
The blend comprises 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Viognier. It is a bright, crisp wine, unencumbered by oak or malolactic fermentation, showcasing fresh fruit characteristics. Chenin Blanc contributes citrus and melon notes, while Viognier adds stone fruit and floral nuances.
The Chenin Blanc grapes are harvested at lower sugar levels to ensure freshness and lower alcohol, while Viognier is picked riper to capture its aromatic depth. Both varieties are cold fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity, with special yeast strains used to enhance aromatic expression and mouthfeel.
This wine opens with lively aromas of tangerine, yuzu, pear, honeydew melon, peach, and mango, underlined by hints of orange blossom and honeysuckle. The palate is fresh and clean, offering vibrant acidity and a smooth, fruit-driven finish.
Its bright profile pairs beautifully with seafood dishes like grilled prawns or scallops, light poultry preparations, and summer salads featuring citrus or melon. It also complements spicy Asian cuisine or mild cheeses well.
