Nero di Troia is an indigenous grape variety of Puglia, in the southern region of Italy. This area is renowned for its rich history of winemaking and its sun-drenched vineyards that produce bold, full-bodied wines. The region's unique terroir, characterised by clay-loam and medium limestone soils, imparts complexity and structure to the wines made from this grape.
The wine is made from 100% Nero di Troia, a variety known for its deep colour, intense aromatics, and complex flavour profile. The wine presents a medium-full bodied structure with a balance of ripe fruit and earthy characteristics, making it a wine with great depth and character.
The grapes are harvested at the end of September, ensuring optimal ripeness. After harvest, the wine undergoes fermentation, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. This method combines the influence of oak for structure and the preservation of fresh fruit flavours through stainless steel.
This wine has a deep ruby red colour that is almost impenetrable, indicative of its concentration. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe blackberries and raspberries, complemented by intriguing notes of underbrush, leather, and sweet spices. The palate is rich and complex, with the deep fruit flavours harmonising with earthy nuances and a long, lingering finish.
The Podere Don Cataldo Nero di Troia 2022 pairs excellently with game meats, hearty stews, and roasted vegetables. It also complements rich pasta dishes with tomato-based sauces. Serve at 18C°.
