Quinta dos Carvalhais Encruzado hails from the Dão region in Portugal, an area renowned for producing elegant and distinctive wines. The region's granitic soils and temperate climate provide ideal conditions for cultivating the Encruzado grape, a variety celebrated for its aromatic complexity and ageing potential.
This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Encruzado, one of Portugal's most esteemed white grape varieties. Known for producing wines with a harmonious balance of fruit and floral notes, Encruzado offers both freshness and structure, making it suitable for both early consumption and extended ageing.
The grapes were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and gently pressed to preserve their delicate aromas. Fermentation took place in French oak barrels, enhancing the wine's complexity and mouthfeel. Following fermentation, the wine matured for six months in the same barrels, allowing it to develop subtle oak characteristics that complement its inherent fruit and floral notes.
The 2022 vintage displays a bright yellow hue. On the nose, it offers a refined bouquet with aromas of yellow-fleshed fruits such as peach and nectarine, enhanced by delicate floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom. Subtle hints of cedar and resin add complexity, reflecting the influence of its barrel ageing. On the palate, it offers fine acidity, full body, and a distinctive mineral component typical of the Encruzado variety, culminating in a persistent finish.
This wine pairs excellently with smoked fish, white meats, or poultry dishes. Serving temperature 10-12ºC.
