Domaine Rolet Arbois Chardonnay 2019
This wine comes from the Arbois AOC, located in the Jura region of eastern France, a historic area celebrated for its unique wines. The Jura's marl and limestone soils, combined with a cool continental climate, make it an ideal terroir for Chardonnay, which thrives in the "En Chagnon" vineyard. This parcel, planted on gravel-rich soils atop gray marl, provides a balance of richness and minerality.
The wine is made from Chardonnay grapes, showcasing the traditional style of Jura whites. Known for its finesse, the 2019 vintage offers a blend of bright acidity, a fresh fruit character, and subtle oak influence, balancing modern vibrancy with old-world complexity. The grapes are manually harvested and carefully sorted to ensure quality. Fermentation is followed by a 10-month aging process, with 30% of the wine matured in new oak barrels. This approach preserves the wine's freshness while adding layers of complexity, including delicate notes of toast and spice.
Domaine Rolet Arbois Chardonnay 2019 has a pale golden hue. Aromas of citrus fruits, green apple, and pear dominate the nose, with hints of hazelnut and minerality from the marl soils. On the palate, it is crisp and vibrant, with a well-structured balance of acidity and roundness. The oak aging imparts subtle vanilla and toasted nuances, leading to a long and refreshing finish.
This wine pairs excellently with grilled fish, shellfish, and creamy quiches. Its minerality and freshness also complement cheese-based dishes and gratins. Serve slightly chilled at 12–14°C, and consider aging it for up to 8–10 years to develop its roundness and complex flavours.
