Salentein Primus Malbec hails from the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. This region, situated at elevations ranging from 1,050 to 1,700 metres above sea level, is renowned for its high-altitude vineyards that benefit from a unique combination of intense sunlight and cool temperatures. These conditions contribute to the development of grapes with concentrated flavours and balanced acidity, making the Uco Valley a premier area for Malbec cultivation.
This wine is crafted exclusively from Malbec grapes, showcasing the varietal's characteristic depth and richness. The style is full-bodied and elegant, reflecting the winemaker's intent to produce a premium expression of Argentine Malbec that balances fruit intensity with structural complexity.
The grapes are meticulously selected from estate vineyards at varying elevations within the Uco Valley, each contributing distinct characteristics to the final blend. Fermentation occurs in large wooden vats, allowing for gentle extraction of colour and tannins. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in new French oak barrels, imparting subtle spice and enhancing the wine's complexity. Notably, the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its full flavour profile.
On the nose, the wine presents intense and complex aromas of red and black berries, complemented by spices such as clove and black pepper. The palate is full-bodied yet remarkably well-balanced, with rich flavours of dark fruits like blackberries and blueberries, interwoven with subtle floral and balsamic notes. The finish is long and elegant, supported by fine tannins and a fresh acidity.
This wine pairs well with beef tenderloin Wellington, lamb with herb crust and balsamic sauce, grilled steaks, aged cheeses, and hearty stews.
