Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2021

Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel is crafted from a blend of grapes sourced from vineyards across Sonoma County, including renowned regions like Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, and Dry Creek Valley. These regions benefit from a diverse terroir and microclimates, which allow Seghesio to create a balanced and complex expression of Zinfandel. The vineyards, with some areas farmed sustainably, provide grapes with vibrant character and rich fruit profile.

The wine is a blend of 91% Zinfandel, with smaller amounts of Petite Sirah (5%), Syrah (1%), and Mixed Reds (3%). This gives the wine a rich, full-bodied profile with bright fruit, spice, and a harmonious balance of tannins and acidity.

The grapes undergo meticulous hand-harvesting, with each vineyard block fermented separately to capture the individual characteristics of the terroir. Various fermentation techniques, such as pump-overs, punch-downs, and rotary fermentation, are employed to maximise the extraction of flavours and tannins. The wine is aged for 10 months in oak barrels (7% new American oak, with the rest neutral French and American oak) before being blended and bottled.

Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2021 is vibrant with aromatics of currant, plum, and hints of black olive, anise, and allspice. On the palate, it offers a lively burst of black raspberry, followed by a bold, supple mouthfeel. The tannins are soft and round, and the wine finishes with a lingering, smooth texture.

It pairs excellently with short ribs, braised pork belly, and gnocchi gorgonzola. Its bold fruit and balanced structure also make it a great match for grilled meats or rich pasta dishes.
