The Tablas Creek Esprit de Tablas Blanc 2019 is sourced from the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, California, where the climate and soils are particularly well-suited for Rhône-style wines. The estate benefits from the region's warm days and cool nights, which help preserve freshness and acidity while encouraging the development of complex flavours.
This white blend is composed of 63% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul Blanc, and 3% Picardan grapes. The wine is a full-bodied, Rhône-style white known for its complexity, rich texture, and balanced acidity, offering a layered experience of fruit, spice, and mineral elements.
The 2019 vintage was carefully managed, with fermentation occurring in oak barrels of various sizes. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 10 months in a mix of French and American oak, with a small portion matured in foudre. The final blend was assembled in April 2020 and allowed to age further before bottling in December 2020.
On the nose, the wine offers a creamy bouquet of wildflower honey, baking spices, and citrus pith, with a distinctive briny minerality. The palate is dry, textured, and rich, with flavours of quince, pear, and the essence of egg custard. The finish is long and complex, leaving behind notes of vanilla bean and limestone mineral. This wine can be enjoyed now, and it has great potential for aging and will evolve beautifully over time.
It pairs exceptionally well with shellfish such as lobster and softshell crab, grilled vegetables like eggplant and peppers, and rich fish dishes such as salmon or swordfish. It also complements dishes prepared with garlic and olive oil.
