The Piano del Cerro wine comes from the volcanic soils of Mount Vulture, in the Basilicata region of southern Italy. Known for its ancient vineyards, some of which feature pre-phylloxera vines over 80 years old, the area's unique soil composition—rich in clay, calcium, nitrogen, and tuff—imparts deep, mineral complexity to the Aglianico grapes. This isolated, rugged region is one of Italy's most pristine, yielding wines with exceptional character​.

This Aglianico del Vulture is made from 100% Aglianico, a varietal known for its bold structure and age-worthiness. The wine presents itself as a robust red with complex flavours, showcasing the potential of Aglianico when grown in such distinctive terroirs​.

The grapes undergo double selection, ensuring only the finest fruit makes it to fermentation. After 25-30 days of maceration in small wooden vats with manual punch-downs, the wine is aged for 24 months in new French oak barriques, allowing it to undergo malolactic fermentation​.

The Piano del Cerro is a deep red wine with a bouquet that offers blackberry, cherry, and vanilla aromas, complemented by subtle hints of dried thyme and oak spice. On the palate, the wine is structured, with grippy tannins supporting the vibrant fruit and giving the wine a long, persistent finish.

This wine pairs beautifully with roast meats, grilled steaks, and game. It also complements aged cheeses. Serving temperature 18°C.
