Zorah Karasi 2021

Zorah Karasi is crafted in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia, a historic winemaking area where viticulture dates back over 6,000 years. The region's high-altitude vineyards, located at 1,400 metres above sea level, benefit from a unique terroir: sandy, limestone-rich soils with large stones and low vigour, combined with a phylloxera-free environment. This allows vines to grow on their own roots, preserving their indigenous DNA and natural characteristics. The harsh climate, with its extreme temperature variations, is perfectly suited to the Areni Noir grape.

Made from 100% Areni Noir, this wine reflects one of the world's oldest grape varieties. With its thick skin and resistance to disease, Areni Noir thrives in its natural habitat, producing wines of smoky elegance and complexity, balanced by firm tannins. The style is deep and textured, with a balance of fruit and spice.

Fermentation occurs in rough, temperature-controlled concrete tanks, using only natural yeast, to preserve the grape's authentic character. The wine is aged for 12 months in traditional Armenian clay amphorae (karasi), which are partially buried in the ground, following ancient local practices. It undergoes an additional 6 months of bottle aging, allowing the flavours to fully integrate.

Zorah Karasi 2021 is a wine of smoky, silky elegance, with aromas of dark berries, herbs, pepper, and anise. On the palate, it is deep and rich, with exotic textures, ripe fruit, and a firm tannic backbone. The finish is long and structured, with layers of flavour that unfold gracefully.

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted meats, grilled lamb, and game dishes, as well as spiced stews or braised dishes. It also complements aged cheeses, charcuterie, and mushroom-based dishes.
