This wine hails from the Montepulciano region in Tuscany, Italy, an area renowned for its high-quality Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wines. The vineyards, located in zones like Bossona, Ciarliana, and Sanguineto, benefit from a mix of clay and sandy soils and a Mediterranean climate. This terroir imparts elegance, structure, and a refined character to the wine, making it a quintessential expression of Tuscan winemaking.

The wine is a blend of predominantly Sangiovese (locally called Prugnolo Gentile) and a small percentage of Canaiolo Nero, a traditional supporting variety in the region. Known for its medium to full-bodied style, this wine exhibits both structure and finesse, with the Sangiovese providing vibrant acidity and red fruit notes, and Canaiolo Nero adding depth and subtle spiciness.

After meticulous hand-harvesting, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 24–28°C. The wine undergoes a maceration period of 20–25 days with daily pump-overs and délestage to extract colour and flavour. Following fermentation, it is aged for 15–18 months, partly in French oak barriques and partly in large Slavonian oak barrels. It is then refined in bottle for an additional six months before release.

The 2020 Valdipiatta Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano displays a deep ruby red hue. The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of ripe cherries, plums, and dried porcini mushrooms, alongside nuances of leather, tobacco, and sweet spices like clove and vanilla. On the palate, it is well-structured, with soft tannins and flavours of dark fruit, earth, and hints of dark chocolate, culminating in a long, persistent finish.

This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or stewed red meats, game dishes, and roasts. It also complements aged cheeses and robust pasta dishes. Serving temperature 16-18 °C.
